Theme Tunes

1. Underbelly: Burkhard Dallwitz – It’s A Jungle Out There

This is the title music for Underbelly, an Australian TV series about criminal gangs. Each series would chart the rise and fall of a particular gang.

I like the operatic vocal over a mean, intimidating groove, topped off with the sampled speech “It’s a jungle out there”.

2. Gomorra: Mokadelic – Doomed To Live

Another great TV series. This song plays at the end of each episode, inevitably as you’re left with another depressing turn of events….

3. Shetland: John Lunn – Shetland Titles Extended

Are TV producers trying to come up with the series with the smallest area with the highest murder rate ?

This does conjure up a feeling of a wild, stormy, isolated, traditional Shetland, without really being in the tradition of Shetland music as far as I can tell.

4. Justified: Gangstagrass feat T.O.N.E-z – Long Hard Times To Come

A cross-over rap/banjo that perfectly sets up each episode.

5. Repo Man: The Plugz – Reel Ten

Intense. I think this is the only film I’ve paid to see twice at the cinema.

This song plays at the climax of the film as the car everyone’s been after ascends in a column of light. I’ve never understood how a) such heavenly music can be written, and b) how it can be written by the Plugz who were a punk band.

This would be good to play at a cremation, I should think.
